How Bad Is It?

¡Hola vecinos! Hola from Colombia. We hope you're all safe.

Long story short, we need to leave Colombia for a day, to get passport stamps for normal bureaucratic red tape.. We thought about Ecuador, but now the president was telling the BBC that they need to take the country back from 22 armed groups (or something like that). (He made it sound so appealing!)

Anyway, you know how things can sound much more or much less severe than they really are, on the news? We just need to fly into the airport, get a visa stamp, eat a good meal, spend the night in a hotel near the airport, and then fly out again the next day (so we can get back to work). Is it unsafe, sich that it is safer to pay a little more, and fly to Panama or Costa Rica or somewhere? Or is it much ado about nothing? (I am normally somewhat of a risk taker, but I do not want to put anyone else at risk.)

Gracias. ? We hope all will be well with you all there.
