To Beach or Not to Beach?

We have decided to get the heck out of the US. Like many others. Ecuador is in our budget and it looks beautiful! We have been looking for real estate in San Clemente. We are laid back people, but I have retired from cooking after raising our 7 kids. We really like our solitude, but we love eating out. And when we all get together we can be loud and it is hectic. We are not fancy people. My husband is Mexican, I am German (both born in USA), and Catholic-hence the 7 kids :) We both love Mexican food and flavors, but will eat just about anything. We don't need the night life, just a large, cheap home on the beach. We are not afraid of getting our hands dirty, we have renovated every home we have lived in. But as an older woman going through menopause, my husband's life would be much easier if the area we move to doesn't get extremely hot. We live in Kansas and it can get -15 F to 105 F. That is too much of a swing for me in one year. For those that have lived in Ecuador, mainly those in San Clemente, would that be a good fit? Is there an area of San Clemente that is not a party town, that is laid back, has great weather, kind of secluded but with a few restaurants close by? Would you recommend buying a car to get around? I can't walk far without sitting down, I'm hoping my health improves. What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond. Please only positive things. If you don't have anything nice to input, please just scroll on by.
