Moving to Cairo and in need of an apt

I am a 26 year old american who is moving to Cairo for work, and am arrivng next week. I would like to find an apartment in an historic area, particularly the 'Islamic Quarter'. As such I would like to enquire as to possible adivice. I have been told that the best method would be to seek out a bowab or samsar(?). Thanks in advance....
