Where to live, in Cairo?

Hello all, Martin here. I've been sent out by my company and am looking for the best "expat-friendly" area to live in. I'm a Brit but have been living in Thailand for 20+ years and work for an International offshore catering company.

I am looking for a small studio or 1 bed apartment in an expat area. I don't need or want top drawer living as the firm will not pay for it, but I want to be comfortable in a clean, modern-ish apartment with easy access to supermarket. I want to feel comfortable with at least a smattering of other ex-pats in the area.

I've been in the Baron Hotel for a week and have now been moved into an apartment our partner company chose for me, and I'm just not comfortable. I'm sure the local people are lovely, the landlord seems a nice chap and the apartment is huge...... but it's still crammed full of his family belongings from when they last lived here, circa 1970, and has the mustiness to match!

I'm out by the airport somewhere..... further out on the Port Said road from where the Baron Hotel is. As soon as I know where I am living I'll get back to you, because you may well tell me this is a terrific area to settle in...... but something in me water tells me no!
