Shipment furniture

I'm wondering if anybody has experience with the shipment of his furniture oversea. As I'm coming from Europe my contain must be taken by ship through the Panama canal. Does anybody have experience by sending a container to Honduras and then by truck to San Salvador?
Did you leave many things behind?
I already saw that the shipment of my car a Toyota Avensis from 2002 will be expensive and difficult.
