Moving used household goods

Anyone have any experience bringing used household goods from the States for personal use? I have an opportunity to bring items from my USA home (kayak, lawnmower, mattress, blower, weedeater etc) for free but I will be responsible for the tax. I am wondering if the taxes will negate the value of bringing the items in. Nothing would have a FMV of over 500.00 and the FMV of the total load would be 1,000 to 1,500 dollars. Thanks in advance for the help!
