Residency - Pension

I've been in El Salvador for 2.5 years. I recently applied for temporary residency. I presented a Banco Agricola letter of record/deposits showing well over $2,000/mo. They dismissed it completely and require deposits from a Pension from the USA. Has anybody had any luck getting an alternative income source approved by Immigration? I don't have SS income. Thanks
