Moving to France...Help!

My partner and I are both in our early 30's and have a beautiful 5 year old daughter. We have recently been seriously thinking of selling up and moving to France, possibly Brittany or Normandy. None of us can speak fluent French but could possibly, with a few funds purchase a property outright but would need to find some sort of employment to get by. It all seems a little scary and a bit of a pipe dream at the moment but we would appreciate any information or guidance to help us decide if it is for us. Schooling and finances would be of particular interest and maybe a little encouragement, especially from people who may be or have been in a similar situation.
