my american girlfriend lives with me here in france, and my boss has offered her a full time job. At the moment she is here on a tourist visa. What would be the best way to go about getting through the battle against red tape?

should we go to the prefecture and tell them that she wants to apply to stay longer, with the right to work? or is it necessary to first obtain a letter from the future employer?

just to make matters more complicated - we live in paris at the moment on a sublet, and we would relocate to alsace where the job would be!

any advice would be great.
