temporary residence visa

Hi everyone,

I have a question about applying for a temporary residence visa to live in France for up to a year. I plan on moving to Lyon, France for around 6 - 9 months and plan to live off savings (unless I can find a part-time job). I would also like to rent an apartment there.

If I arrive in France without a visa, but plan on staying in the country by leaving and coming back after 3 months --- will this affect my chances of renting an apartment? Do landlords expect to see a residency visa if you want to rent for several months?
