Gites-income/taxes

we have been told that agency' are available to advertise,do accounts,pay taxes etc..for the running of your gites is this true? and if so would you recommend it? or is it easy enough to do it yourself, obviously we wouldn't want to get ourselves into any trouble with the law and so need to do this right..
