can i take my electrical goods with me?

ive seen one such question from an american, but donot know if it's any different for brits, ive got a brand new sony weiga with built in digital and a smartlink video, also still boxed technics stereo very large upright fridge and freezer etc. etc.. and ive not long bought this computer either are there any special cables/cords/adapters i would need. And, when you set your computer up in france does everything read in french?? Ive been told that the 230 volts in england are the same as in france true or false?
