I am a computer engineer (software architect) with a degree in computer science, 25 years experience, and a severe itch to move to back to France.
I lived and worked in France for 4 years on a carte de sejour under "detache" status (1992 through 1996). My wife and I like life in France better than life "back" in the US, hence the itch needing to be scratched.
I am investigating visa requirements, and it appears that Computer Engineers are afforded some preference when applying for a carte de long sejour and working papers.
I was also born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also noted in some popular press is that French law gives better access to citizenship to persons born of former French territories - i.e. the Louisiana Purchase.
Has anyone from former LA Purchase territories actually applied for citizenship and tested the policy? I know of one convicted murderer on death row in Louisiana that did it, but obviously, I'm hesitant to draw any parallels to his situation.
Please help!
Best regards,
Larry
