Needed: Advice on transferring $$ from the US

Hello! My husband (a French national) and I are selling our home in the US and would like to transfer the money to our French account to finance improvements on our home here. Does anyone know if we have to pay French taxes on transferred money? As is, we will have to declare the sale on our US taxes. But we are unsure if we can transfer the money to France without again paying taxes on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
