Freelancing in France

Hi All,

I'm an American living in France and I am looking to move here for good. I've been programming computers for about 8 years now and during that time I've gotten by quite well in the US with an Associates in Computer Science. France seem to be a hard nut to crack when it comes to education. The administration seem to overlook where I've worked and for how long. I've been through interviews and they come to the same problem I've been having all along. I have my French CV up to date, carte de sejour(temp status), a translation for my diploma, medical certificates.... you name it. I've been over here since November 2005 to start the language so I am not too bad as far as getting around.

So my questions are how would one get into the freelance or contractor regime? Which one is less work to set up? Which is more costly? I've looked up the French term for Umbrella Companies (les portages salarials) and none of them cater to Non-Europeans. I know that the umbrella companies are not required, it's just they take a lot of weight off my shoulders as far as the mountain of paperwork. It also seem that a new law is in place to expedite the normal routine of paperwork and allow technical people work in France. I still have to verify this since the law is still quite new... I wouldn't mind working for an a foreign company as long as I am living in France.

Any thoughts?

Thank you soo much in advance for replying,
Chris Horton
