Musician planning to move to Lyon area within the next year

I'm a 'young' 55 year old flute player planning to move to Lyon within the next year. I'm currently freelancing (performing and teaching) as a musician in Pretoria, South Africa and would like to do the same in France. I'm thinking of relocating to one of the smaller towns around Lyon. Perhaps it would be easier to integrate into the community in a smaller town rather than in the city.

It has been my dream to move to France for a long time. I speak French fairly fluently and am an active member of the Alliance Française in Pretoria, where I'm now improving my writing skills.

Any advice for my venture moving to France would be most welcome!
