Swap house for work?

I am an American with a vacation house in the Périgord. When my kids were little, we used it all the time, but now that they are college-age and older, it's really hard to find time when we can all be there. I definitely don't want to sell the house, but it sits vacant a lot of the time (it's watched carefully, though). I've been thinking of seeing if I can find a reliable person who could do some upkeep and renovations on it in return for very low or no rent. Has anyone done anything like that before who could help me determine the pros and cons of such an arrangement?
