Where are fellow expats in Haute Savoie, France?

I moved to the Haute Savoie (Annecy) region on France from NYC in May for my French finance (now husband) and have been doing my best to find people and things to connect with. I have been in the Paris area (for work) before and never had a problem. I have joined an expat group here but I am the only person who is actually an expat. No school to learn French, no one uses the internet, etc... I feel so disconnected and am left wondering, "Where is everyone?" I realize it is not NYC but I expected a few events in the area I could attend and organizations to be a part of. Does anyone live around here or know about expat communities?
I have already checked out Meetup.com and Geneva is a bit far (an hour an no public transportation to get there), but am happy to go there if needed. :)
I can't believe there is nothing to do here and no one to talk English with or places to learn French.
