Is it possible to spend six months minus a day in France and six months plus a day in the US per year, on a recurring basis?
I'm American. My husband is French. We currently reside in the US. He'd like to be in France more often. We'd like to remain US residents as our tax situation is already complicated here -- a French accountant once declared that filing our taxes in France would be a nightmare. We wouldn't need to find work in France; I make enough for both of us and can work remotely. Ideally, we'd like to spend six months in France in one, uninterrupted block.
Is this possible? Should I apply for a long-stay visa "D"? Does this visa have tax consequences? Should we simply content ourselves with splitting our time in France into two blocks of three months?
Thanks in advance.
