Student Visa

Bonjours!
I am seriously thinking I'd love to spend a year or so in France studying the French language. I studied French in both high school and University but have forgotten much of it. I understand that an older adult can apply for a Student Visa. Is that correct and is there an age limit? Also, am interested in the areas of Pau, Montpellier, and possibly Bordeaux. Any information about language study in those areas would be most appreciated. Merci Beaucoup!
