Keeping American Insurance and supplement with International Insurance

My retirement plan from work provides me with 100% HMO insurance or subsidized PPO insurance for the rest of my life. I will gladly purchase an international health insurance policy when I'm ready to emigrate, but can I keep my PPO to supplement what my new policy doesn't cover? Are there any American expats living abroad that continue their American health insurance and return to the USA for certain procedures? I hate to give it up since I earned it and it's paid for, and not sure if I will lose it for good if I move and let the policy lapse. Thanks!
