Calais?

We are interested in moving to the Calais area, close to beaches but also with relative access to other parts of the world we love to visit. And still fairly close to Paris. We are retirees with savings and social security but cannot afford to live in the UK or in Paris itself. We owned an apartment there for some time and it was a bit of a nightmare meeting all the requirements of the city government.

Can anyone give us their impression of life in Calais? We've seen the website testimonials as to the weather, quality of life, low costs of healthcare and food. Would love to hear people's opinions.
