Cost French healthcare system

My understanding is that the cost for an expat to sign up for the French national healthcare system is 8% of your total income. So, for instance, if your income equals €50,000 annually, then you will be expected to pay €4,000 annually for your French national healthcare. That comes out to €333 per month. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?
