Places to see and experience

Interested in suggestions on places to visit around Europe: Day trips and overnights. I have an education in the arts, been an art teacher briefly and have returned to painting after a career in hospitality.

I am considering buying a property in France close to trains and access to the airport. Lille, Tours, and Aix en Provence are possibilities though open to ideas.
