Expat Insurance for US Citizens in Germany

I have been living in Munich for 2 years now, and am starting to look into other options for health insurance.
I have two questions regarding this issue:

1) I am currently covered under the german public health insurance where you pay a certain percentage of your salary. that is quite expensive, however i do not yet earn enough to qualify for private german insurance either according to german law. Does anyone know if I can replace my german insurance with an international private insurance that would cover me if I were to go back to the states as well?

2) as a US citizen, there aren't many options for an insurance that also covers the US. Does anyoneone out there have a tip or recommendations for me?

Thanks so much
