Driving in Germany

I urge anyone either living in Germany or planning to drive there. The events I am about to report happened only a few weeks ago and shocked me.

We were four people driving through a small German village. After crossing through the main intersection in town we saw several hundred meters ahead a fire truck at an angle on the left side of the road. There were some blue lights but sirens no one in the road directing traffic so we proceeded very slowly (19 km/h - i looked). A fireman in an SUV comes towards us. Had his blue lights on but no siren, no signaling to us. As the front of his SUV was aligned with the front of our car, he suddenly turned sharply and crashed into us.

The police and fire service claimed afterwards that in Germany they are allowed to crash into a car to stop you. Mind you the apparent accident that happened further up front was not visible, there was no danger, no siren, no signaling from officials.

You really can't make this stuff up. Even though I wasn't the driver, I probably would never rent a car in Germany again.
