Healthcare and banking.

I'll be insured through my existing healthcare insurance plans and the Canadian government for the first 6 months, but will need long term insurance solutions after that, so am curious what are the best ways to go considering my transient long term travel plans. Which companies best accommodate that, and how does it even work depending on the situation (injury due to an accident, or long term illness, or emergency situations such as a burst appendix, for example). The last thing I want to have to do is cancel my trip along the way and return to Canada to deal with it.

As for banking, as a Canadian, I'll always have access to my Canadian bank account, but withdrawing cash (as is often needed to have on hand in 3rd world countries) gets expensive with ATM machines - not to mention they often only allow you to withdraw small amounts each time, meaning greater incurred withdrawal fees due to multiple withdraws rather than fewer larger ones.
