Hello Folks,
Need some help understanding my situation from Income Tax POV.
I am an Indian Citizen working in US for a US multinational on H1B for the last 5 years. I have not applied for Green Card.
I have accepted an expat assignment to India with my employer. I will be paid my US salary with US components in a US bank account.
In addition, I get housing allowance/travel allowance etc in India. Its a 2 year assignment.
My question is:
1) I believe there will be TDS. Will this be paid to IRS or the Indian IT dept.
2) Do I have to pay US taxes (I am not a US citizen or GC holder)?
I understand that I may have to file US taxes (not pay) if the TDS is paid to IRS just to get it refunded.
3) Any other tips or questions that you folks can think about to plan/optimize my Tax situation? I do have tax consulting as a part of the relo package, and I am trying to understand as much before the sessions so that I can ask relevant questions.
Thanks for taking the time to read through. Do let me know if I am not clear on any of this.
Thanks,
Shanon
