Thinking of moving to Ireland

Hi folks, my wife and I have mulled over the possibility of a move for a long time, we have both lived in Scotland all our lives, but are now certain it is the right time for us to move, as our son has not started school yet, we'd like to move before that for his benefit,
What we were wondering, is could anyone pass on any info they think is relevant from house prices, to areas they'd recommend for raising a family, or any thing else you can think of, any help at all would be greatly appreciated, we have been tentatively looking into the Limerick, Cork, and Dublin areas.
