Seriously considering the move

Okay, my situation is a tad different than the other posts because I do NOT have to work in Ireland. I work as a US Merchant Marine and can live anywhere in the world. That said, Ireland is in my Top 3 choices for when I get back from my next trip in March.
Last fall I spent 2 1/2 weeks getting a general 'feel' of various cities (Cork, Galway, Dublin, Shannon, Kinsale, Westport and various smaller towns). I think I'd like to live in SE Ireland, but not Dublin. Too much traffic!! Anyway, I am open to any and all suggestions on where I should concentrate my sights. It's just gonna' be me, not even a pet!
