Which Mobile Phone and Service to buy in Ireland

Getting closer to the big move :) Now our minds are turning to having to purchase a mobile phone on arrival. Any ideas. Please note we are dinosaurs. We only have a pre-paid cheapie here in Oz as I found it gave me a headache trying to circumnavigate the different phones and plans. As always, your advices are most welcome!
