Taking furniture to ireland

We are purchasing a house in County Cork. We have furniture that could be moved from the UK to Ireland but I wonder if its actually cheaper and easier to purchase new/ second hand furniture when we arrive.

I had thought of hiring a large self drive van to move the stuff but this would probably cost £400-500.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated from those who have already looked at this.
