Hi, my husband is an Irish citizen (his father was originally from Ireland), and we're looking to move there in the nearish future (1-5 years). (To be clear, my husband has an Irish passport.) We're at the beginning stages of figuring out what we need to do. I'm looking for general advice and where to start. (There's a lot on this website, but personal experience is very helpful too!)
1. I've heard that there is a demand for urban planners. Would it be better/easier for me to look for a job in urban planning first, get an offer, and then move? Or would it be better to move (with significant savings) and then look for a job and such?
2. We have some loose personal connections in Ireland (friends of friends and very distant relatives) in Ireland. Our primary strategy is reaching out to them for figuring out where to live and starting to build a network, although 90% of them (or all of them) aren't expats. I'm looking for a general 'checklist' and other recommendations for what to start with.
3. While I know there is significant unemployment in Ireland at this time, does anyone have any recommendations for looking for a job/finding a job in urban planning, specifically relating to affordable housing? Any headhunters or placement agencies?
4. We have a daughter who is in elementary/primary school (and still will be in the next few years). I'm looking for general recommendations for her.
