Where are the best and most affordable places to live outside of Dublin.

We are planning a trip in May to evaluate locations and perhaps meet with someone in real estate to better understand the rental market. We prefer to be near the Dublin airport by at least an hour or so. We also have cousins in Northern Ireland in Newry so the ability to visit easily is also important.
We are seniors so an area with hobbies such as pottery and libraries are important too.
