Moving to Italy , dual passport, work

I have applied in the past year for Italian citizenship under the regulation of "de sanguinis" which means I am qualified thru my father and grandfather, (my father was born in the USA but before my Grandfather became an American citizen).

Does anyone have any experience with this process? It has been almost a year and I hear nothing from the Italian consulate, I will assume there is a backlog and may take a few years, but Is it odd not to receive any notifications?

I am interested to move to Italy and live there at least 4 to 6 months per year. I have my own business which is not really dependent on any specific location, I could do it in Oregon or Sicily or Thailand. Has anyone else done this as well?

And finally if you have a dual passport how is that working out?
is being or not being an Italian citizen a benefit or detraction?

thanks.
