Traveling to Italy to give birth

Hi everyone,
I need some advice. I'm expecting a baby for the first time and things are not working out for me at this moment. Husband left me, lost my job and I have no other family member here in the US. I'm feeling terribly sad during a time I thought I was going to have a wonderful experience. I'm thinking about going to Italy to give birth so my mom can be with me. I'm a US citizen so I'd be going there as a tourist. Can this be possible? I don't want to do anything illegal. Is it very expensive? Please advice me.
