Vacation in 2011

Hello All

I am a recently retired American school teacher that has made several trips to Italy in the past for summer vacations i last 6-8 years. Mainly visiting Tuscany,Lazio and Campania area. I now want to vacation longer instead of the two or three weeks. I want to venture to the Adriatic coastline and spend my time on the beaches, from May to August in 2011. Can anyone give me advice on long term rentals, economical, small studio, near beaches,historic area, walking distance to towns, not too isolated, and safe. I know it is a tall order but at least direct me to a reputable website, to investigate. I have done some surfing on the Internet but there are so many and it is overwhelming. My long term goal is to purchase a small retirement home.
