Primary School in Italy

Hello!

I'm planning to move to Umbria (exact location to be determined when we can find a place to live) for a year beginning in 2012. I have 3 children, and am planning on enrolling them in public schools. My youngest will be 5 1/2 at that point, and my understanding is that he will not be old enough for the primary school. Can anyone tell me if there is any flexibility with starting age? Or, if you have information on how to locate and enroll in nursery schools, that would be tremendously helpful!
