Medications

As I get closer to the date of my emigration to Italy, my questions are becoming more mundane, yet practical. I have a few medications that I take in the states. As an Italian citizen (dual with US), I plan to be on Italy's health program. I would presume that I would establish a relationship with a general practitioner and review my health needs including meds I was taking in the states. While I expect that I may have to switch to equivalent drugs that Italy uses more readily, I would like to know others' experiences with this type of transition. Any problems? Issues?
