American TV in Italy?

I'm not too fond of standard television programming in both the US or Italy -- but I have survived by choosing well with cable options in the US so that I have my classic movies, public broadcasting (PBS), food channels, documentaries, and on-demand services that I can record or watch live. A slingbox would allow me to continue with this in Italy, but I won't be leaving a TV on in the US to access with various devices in Italy. That's because I'm completely pulling up stakes in the US to move permanently to Italy. Have any of you found technological solutions for this issue? Are there satellite services in Italy to access British TV? If all else fails, I'll just take advantage of what's available by way of streaming and mainly use Italian TV to brush up on the Italian language.
