In Puglia where snow is usually an occasional and mild event (exception: New Years Day 2015), I am seeing road signs indicating that chains are to be used on tires from now until spring. Are chains actually used? In the snowy area of New England (USA) where I'm from chains were outlawed years ago. I bought a car recently and my tires are not snow tires. So, does anyone know what the rules are? If chains are an option, are they used only in snow storms? Where do you get them? Are they easy to put on and take off? A snow tire could be a more popular option; however, does Italy sell all-season tires that would be more convenient and still comply with the law? I thought I left the pains of winter behind when I chose Puglia as my new home. This is a royal PITA!
