extended wwoofing

I have wwoofed in Italy and would love to spend half the year wwoofing my way around the country. I would love to move there and maybe some day that will happen. My question is this, how long can I stay in Italy as a wwoofer? Does the 183 days still apply and would I need to leave the country before that time frame is up? And what sort of Visa would I need, as I believe the tourist visa is only good for 90 days. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Io amo l'italia!
