New Italian Tax Question

Hi all.

All of my taxable income is from the U.S. I am having a discussion with my commericialista about claiming a tax credit against my Italian income tax obligation in the amount of the taxes I already paid to the U.S. A problem has arisen regarding interest income.

Because more than enough taxes were taken out of my monthly pension in the U.S., when I filed my U.S. taxes I didn't owe any additional taxes even though interest earnings were added to compute the total gross income for the year.

Now my commercialista is telling me that I can not claim a credit for taxes already paid to the U.S. against that interest income because I do not have a "definitive date" as to when the tax was paid on the interest income. Did that make sense? Ha!

My argument is that what should be at issue is the total amount of U.S. taxes I paid as to applying a tax credit against Italian taxes.

Has anyone come across this problem of not having a "definitive date" of tax payment on interest income and how that issue was resolved?

Thanks in advance.
