Sri Lankan Expat & Divorce

I came to Italy to join my wife who is also Sri Lankan. We married in Sri Lanka and came to live in Italy. We lived in her family's home in Italy for one year but our relationships went sour and her family throw me out. I was homeless and eventually found a room share. It is now two years since we separated. I asked my wife many times to allow me to return but she was adamant i could not. She is now suing me for divorce. Can i settle this without returning to Sri Lanka?
