Married in Italy

Hello! I’m a US citizen and I just married an Italian citizen. I plan on remaining in Italy and I’m starting the process of working on my visa here in Italy. Does anyone know what I should do in the US? Visit the Italian embassy maybe? How do I let the US know I’m married?
