Hi,
Making plans to relocate imminently. girlfriend (EU Accession national) wants to live in Italy .. and I have friends there. So Italy it is.
Lots of online sources of intel .. including the Italian govt .. all offering either completely contradictory statements - or incomplete statements. So I thought i'd try some folks who had already done it and had knowledge of the actual processes and documentation requirements.
So, we need to relocate before 29th March 2019 (for safety) .. which means quitting my current apartment and job in the UK with minimal notice. Luckily I have several business interests so i will arrive solvent .. and within a few months of submitting my PhD which i will have to finish remotely. However, all my income is earned (and taxed) outside of Italy. i'm not self-employed and i'm not employed by an Italian company (I considered re-registering but someone told me that the business is a controlled one in Italy so i have to have a permit and the exam is in Italian - so no thanks. The company doesn't operate IN Italy so I have no need to go down that road[. I do have a contract of employment though .. and from more than one business. If that helps?
Medical .. i have an EHIC that is valid until end of March .. do i need insurance over and above that or does the EHIC pretty much cover it?
My business interests require me to travel regularly across 7-8 EU states, including Access/Candidate countries in the Adriatic/Balkan region .. it looks like Residents don't get FoM .. so a 'get-out clause' for that would be useful. If there is some kind of Withdrawal [Miss]Dealing then perhaps i can hop on the 'frontier worker protection' clauses?
Accommodation .. do i have to rent an apartment? Or would a hotel address or a campsite .. or even a friend's spare room suffice? I do own a very large tent ...
What's the difference between a cambia di residenz and a permesso-di-soggiorno? Which one am i applying for in the first instance? and do i go to the questura or the angrafo? or are they one and the same? The online sources are not clear.
I saw some posts where people were told to do fingerprints and a language class .. I'm an EU citizen - so surely that can't be right? Not that i object to learning Italian, but I'd certainly rather not be treated like i'd just been let out of prison.
Thanks for any pointers. Much appreciated . time grows short unfortunately and I need to move all my assets to italy within about 100 days .. bargain.
Ryan
