Tech Solution: Banking

It amazes me how many easy tech solutions — like VPN, DNS, and VIOP — I’ve learned to give access to geo-blocked websites, entertainment, and free or cheap international phone calling. I’m not really tech savvy, but I learn as I go based on need. Can anyone help me with my latest need?

I depend on my US banking relationships in Italy as much as I ever did in the US (online banking, international wires, ATM/Debit, etc) and things have been working out well up until recently. On occasion these banks would require sending an access code for added security via email (my chosen preference). Two of my financial institutions no longer use email, but insist on text messaging. This is a problem because these FIs won’t text to an international phone number. I do have a cheap Android phone that I use as my US based phone number. I routinely access voicemail messages remotely; but I don’t know how to retrieve SMS text messages that contain one-time access codes. I’m learning that there is “spyware” software available that may provide a solution. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices and which would be best for my one specific need. Also confusing is that my phone in Italy is an iPhone8, while the state-side phone (different phone number and different service providers) is Android. Has anyone solved this situation for themselves with good results?
