My great grandfather, Carmello Fiorello, immigrated from Campobasso, Italy in 1901. He married Florence Fiorelli, his cousin, in the US. I have no idea whether or not he ever became a US citizen, nor am I certain how to find out. I did find his record of immigration at Ellis Island complete with his signature. I also have his original birth certificate from Campobasso.
My grandmother lived and died a US citizen. My mother lived and died a US citizen. My heart yearns to return to Italy. I belong there.
Regardless, do I have any ground to apply for dual US-Italian citizenship if great grandpa Fiorello became a naturalized US citizen? Am I better off tax-wise going the ER/Permisso di Siggiorno route for tax purposes? My husband and I meet the income and health insurance standards required by the LA Embassy (we live in Riverside County, CA).
What would you advise, and thank you for your time in answering.
Auguri! (We've been studying :)
