My partner (who is an Dual US-Italian citizen Living in the US and I (a US citizen) are planning to move long-term to Rome. We have everything ready to buy a plane ticket and all of our paperwork ready for the move, and ready for me to apply for my PdS except for one thing: a rental contract.
We have reached out to a lot of ads and have had zero replies. I think that with COVID fears, no one wants to deal with Americans in Italy right now, despite us offering to pay several months in advance.
But without a rental contract, he cannot establish residency. And without residency, I cannot apply for my PdS.
We though about just showing up and winging it by staying in an AirBnB or hotel for a month until maybe we find a place there, but the more I think about it the more I don’t think it will work.
First, there is the need for a 14 day quarantine upon arrival. Nothing can get done in that time. Then, say it takes a month to find a place. Already we would be there for 45 days. Then it takes about 10 days for my spouse to establish residency. So, it would already be two months before I could even apply for a PdS...which is greatly over their preferred limit. And from what I’ve read, the odds of them even considering it at that point is slim.
