Dual citizenship - is it worth it?

My wife is eligible for dual citizenship (US and Italy). We are starting to pursue this path? I have a few questions about dual citizenship:
1. What are the benefits of her being a dual citizen (healthcare, residency, taxes , etc)?
2. As her husband, do I receive any benefits?
3. We have an adult child (27) with autism, that is totally disabled, receiving a monthly social security check. I assume that she will forgo the social security check when we move to Italy; is that correct? Is there an equivalent system to social security that would provide any funding in Italy?
Thanks, in advance, for your help!
Steve
